Woman Told She Was Expecting Baby Girl Shocked To Give Birth To Son

An excited couple who were expecting their third baby got a shock when delivery day came and had a baby boy.

Sarah Heaney and her husband William Govan went to eight scans, all of which told them they were due a little girl, so they went out and stocked up on pink outfits, dummies, blankets, a crib and even little baby-grows with ‘little sister’ on.

The pair, from County Down in Northern Ireland, were feeling pretty confident that they were expecting a girl after having a private gender scan at 17 weeks, an NHS gender scan at 20 weeks and then scans every three weeks from 25 weeks, due to concerns over the baby’s size.

But life doesn’t always pan out the way you’d planned and on the day their baby was born a final scan revealed it was a boy.

Sarah got the shock news after going into hospital when she was two-days overdue, while William took Ella, seven and Abbie, three, to the park.

After coming to terms with the sudden change in circumstance, Sarah decided to film the moment she broke the news to her family.

Soon after Sarah’s contractions started and William rushed her to hospital… after stopping to pick up a couple of new baby-grows, of course.

Max, who is now 12 weeks old, was born later that evening weighing a healthy 7lbs 1oz.

Sarah said: “When I first found out I was having a girl I was happy enough. I already had two girls, most of my friends had girls and I’d never really been around boys, so I thought at least I knew what I was doing.

“I was quite excited about my girl tribe, but the ironic thing is my eldest daughter really wanted a brother, so I had to keep drumming it into her that it was a girl and that it was going to be fun.

“That’s why we bought the little sister clothes to try and include the girls in what was happening.

“We had narrowed it down to two names, Luna and Penny. The girls preferred Luna, so they had been calling the baby that for ages.

“My youngest still got confused at the start even after he was born and was calling Max, Luna.

“In my sleep deprived state, I sometimes called him a she and referred to him as her too.

“I couldn’t believe it when the sonographer at the final scan said she thought it was a boy.

“I just felt the blood drain from me. I couldn’t talk for ages and my body felt all weird.

“My husband isn’t usually an emotional person, so I was surprised to see him react like that. Ella’s reaction was just hilarious.

“When Max arrived, I asked everyone to double check and sure enough he was a boy.

“It was a bit of a whirlwind at the time, but he is perfect, and we wouldn’t change him for the world.”
