There’s just six weeks until Christmas, which means there’s only a little over two weeks until you can start pulling back the doors on your advent calendar. Exciting.
And if you don’t fancy the usual cheap chocolate option that tastes like wax, then why not opt for one of these cheese calendars?
Yup, you can fill your December with cheese as the bestselling calendar is back and features brands such as Applewood and Mexicana. If that isn’t enough to get you excited, this year’s offering promises to have even more cheeses.
Just think each morning you can tuck into a chunk of red Leicester, mature cheddar or one of the more adventurous varieties such as gingerbread-flavoured Wendsleydale. What a way to start the day, eh?
The calendar was created by food blogger Annem Hobson who owns the So Wrong It’s Nom blog.
All the way back in 2016, Annem realised there was a gap in the market for cheese calendars so set about creating one – how did no one think of this sooner?
Using the hashtag #CheeseNotChoc to garner how much demand there was for the product, Annem soon found she was going viral and within just four days 11,000 people had signed up to say they wanted one.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo in 2017, Annem said: “Cheese. I love it. I’d go as far as saying I love it more than chocolate.
“After searching high and low and discovering there shockingly wasn’t already one on the market, I launched a campaign after creating one handmade prototype last Christmas.”
After initially launching in Asda, the calendars are now available in a number of retailers, including Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Lidl and Waitrose, as well as online.
Annem is also poised to launch her cheese crackers – a traditional Christmas cracker with a cheese-based twist. The crackers contain two portions of individually wrapped cheese, five mini oat-cakes, a teeny jar of tomato chutney, a hat and, of course, a ‘cheesy joke’.
The calendars go on sale this month, and veggies will be pleased to know the calendars are vegetarian.
