1,600 Pubs Offering Free Soft Drinks To Designated Drivers Over Christmas Period

Christmas, eh? Whereas once it used to be about enjoying time with your family, now it tends to be about slower versions of popular songs aimed at encouraging you to visit one department store or other.

As wonderful as that is, it distracts us from the real reason for the season – which is, of course, hitting the booze. However, while you’re sinking a pint with your friends, spare a thought for those who are unable to join you – the designated drivers of this world.

Don’t worry, though. Help is at hand.

Coca-Cola and Greene King have teamed up for the 10th year running to offer solace for those forgoing beer in order to drive you lazy lot later on.

That means that throughout the festive season anyone who shows their keys and agrees to stay off the sauce can receive a voucher when they buy a soft drink to get their second one free, be it a Coke, a Diet Coke or a non-alcoholic Heineken.

See, it’s not so bad.

Obviously, we all know that drink driving is completely out of order. That’s why these companies feel it is important to allow those who choose not to drink for the enjoyment of others to still feel included.

In a press release, Paul Robertson, Associate Director, On-Premise at Coca-Cola European Partners GB, explained: “We’d like to thank Greene King for partnering with us for the last 10 years on the Designated Driver campaign and continuing to evolve the platform to ensure it remains relevant to today’s consumers.

“Greene King should be applauded for its continued leadership in helping to promote responsible drinking and embracing the role soft drinks can play across its estate, especially on the lead up to Christmas. Here’s to another 10 years of partnership.”

Phil Thomas, Chief Commercial Officer at Greene King, added: “As a leading pub company, we have an important role to play in helping to promote responsible drinking and we have given away around a quarter of a million free Coca-Cola products over the past decade as part of the Designated Driver campaign.”

So, if you’re planning on driving everyone home, the offer will be available at all of Greene King’s 1,600 pubs – including Hungry Horse, Chef & Brewer, and Farmhouse Inns – from now until 1 January 2020.

Simply present your car keys at the bar and buy a Heineken 0.0, any 330ml bottle of Coca-Cola, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, Diet Coke or a 275ml Appletiser to receive a voucher for your next purchase.
