Many of us are distracted from everyday life at the moment.

And, we may not feel like celebrating in the face of the corona virus pandemic.

But, tomorrow, May 5, marks Cinco de Mayo – a Mexican celebration usually marked by colourful parades, cheerful music and mouthwatering food.

If you’re looking for something fun to do, then a feast of Mexican flavours could be just the thing to perk up your spirits.

And, while tucking into tasty tacos with guacamole, salsa and chips and maybe a churro or two – you’ll need something to sip on.

While a traditional Margarita could do the trick, Scottish distillery Brew Dog have devised something a little different.

The brand new cactus and lime gin launches in the morning.

LoneWolf Cactus & Lime is made “from grain to glass” in the wild frontiers of Aberdeen.

Loaded with lime and topped up with the juice of pressed cactus and Queen of the Night – an elusive fragrant cactus flower that only appears after dark – the gin is flavoured spiky citrus notes and a strong juniper base.

The cactus delivers watermelon and lychee flavours which go perfectly with the zesty lime notes.

A 70cl bottle will set you back £26 at BrewDog.com – not bad for a premium gin.

Ingredients which add to the powerful gin’s taste include lemongrass, grapefruit peel, scots pine and lavender.

We’d recommend serving with lashings of ice, wedges of lime, tonic and a couple of peppercorns.

Or, try a Mexican Collins.

Mix together soda water, ice, cactus and lime gin and ginger, lime and chilli syrup.

Garnish with a basil leaf or a whole fresh chilli for added kick.

We know what we’re getting up to tomorrow…
