Black Mirror season 5 trailer confirms release date and cast

And there’s a confirmed release date now, too…

The first trailer for Black Mirror season 5 is here at last, teasing a star-studded cast.

A release date for Charlie Brooker’s dystopian anthology has been officially confirmed too – you’ll be able to see brand new episodes from June 5 on Netflix.

An all-star cast including Miley Cyrus, Avengers: Endgame’s Anthony Mackie and Pom Klementieff, and Fleabag actorAndrew Scott will appear in season 5 – with Spiderman 3‘s Topher Grace also showing up in long-haired/bearded form in the trailer.

In terms of storylines and action, though, there are only hints to chew on right now.

We have Miley in an apparent parallel-reality where she’s a popular stage performer; Scott losing his grip on sanity after becoming disillusioned with a technology-obsessed society; Mackie looking to be going through some marital issues; and the (possibly Tekken-inspired) fisticuffs right at the end.

The pulsing soundtrack throws you straight back into Black Mirror‘s twisted dimension, too, which means it’s hopefully lost none of that terrifying power we’ve come to expect.

Meanwhile, series creator Brooker has said that viewers “overlook the humour” in his Netflix show.

“I think it’s often easy for people to overlook the dark humour that is in Black Mirror,” he reflected. “Certainly when the ideas come about, it’s an idea that makes me laugh. But then we play it really straight. Having said that, I’m proud to be a morose individual.”

Black Mirror season five will debut on Netflix from June 5, for now watch the trailer below:
